CANYONLANDS
This page contains images from a road trip through Nevada, Arizona, and Utah in early June 2018. Our photo trip included three National Parks, a Navajo Tribal Park, and a Nevada State Park. Each setting offered something special, often iconic to capture. Images from Canyonlands and Schafer Canyon are presented below: .
Canyonlands National Park is a majestic, multicolored landscape of mesas, buttes and canyons below the confluence of the Colorado and Green rivers near Moab, Utah. This vast geologically varied area was formed over millions of years by erosion from the Colorado and Green rivers and their tributaries. We exited the park via Shafer Trail Road, a notoriously narrow, steep, backcountry road that descends 1500 feet in a series of swticbacks along the side of a massive sandstone cliff. We learned later that this road is among the most dangerous in the United States. It was a challenging drive to say the least, but it offered great images along the way where it was safe to stop.
