CRATERS OF THE MOON
The images here are derived from a long-awaited road trip through the northwestern United States in early summer 2016. The photo trip encompassed four National Parks and two National Monuments in California, Oregon, Idaho and Wyoming. Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve in Idaho consists of geologically young lava beds that interrupted The Oregon Trail, causing significant detours as pioneer wagon trains came west during the 19th Century. The lava rocks were so sharp they would cut into the hooves of horses and oxen making this section of The Oregon Trail impassable for wagon trains.
