FLORENCE
Florence is my favorite city and "home" while in Italy. It is comfortable, full of wondrous art treasures, history, architectural marvels, delicious food and great wine. I go to Florence to visit the museums and churches and immerse myself in the art, to walk along the Arno, to meander through the Boboli Gardens, or hike up to the Piazzela Michelangelo and capture the sense and beauty of the Old City with my camera.
The center of the Italian Renaissance, significant art and architecture can be seen nearly everywhere in the old city of Florence. The churches...Santa Maria del Fiore (Duomo), Santa Maria Novella, Santa Croce, San Marco, San Lorenzo, the Baptistry, San Miniato al Monte, Santa Maria del Carmine, and Santo Spirito...all played major roles in the history of Italy and the evolution of art and architecture.
The Bargello, Duomo Museum, Palazzo Medici Riccardi, Palazzo Vecchio, and Palazzo Pitti house major works of art that should not be missed. The Uffizi Gallery contains one of the foremost art collections in the world.
The Arno River and its scenic bridges on the south side of Florence offer incredible afternoon and nightime vistas to photohraph. The elements of color and the magical effects of light and reflections come alive in remarkable harmony along the river any time of year.
